Meet Bright Mediums

Josh Stephenson

Founder / Director / iOS Lead

A BRIEF HISTORY

Josh (they/them) came to New York City in 2009 to work for RGA where they led teams building apps for Nike including: Nike+ Running and Nike+ Fuelband. In late 2011, they started Bright Mediums with the mission to provide on-demand mobile app services at the highest quality.

We provide development services for iOS, Kotlin for Android and React Native for cross-platform projects. For select clients we also offer web development services using Node, Typescript, React and other modern web technologies.

Other than Josh, all our developers are in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Buenos Aires is a great hub for software developers for a few reasons. Firstly, the time zone is favorable. At worst it is 6 hours ahead of the west coast during daylight savings time and at best 2 hours ahead of the east coast during standard time. Secondly, the bar for software engineering in Argentina is very high, we might even say higher than many areas of the United States. Lastly, the work culture is very similar and most Argentines are fluent in English (and that goes for all our developers).

OUR MISSION

We offer on-demand software services at rates that are more affordable than US based developers of the same caliber. To be clear, that caliber is the top 90th percentile of developers globally. You cannot find anyone in the US with our expertise and hire them full time for what you pay us. That’s the first part of our our mission. The second part is that you will never notice that we are not part of your team. That means that we will work with you just like anyone you employ directly. You won’t have anyone standing in between you and the developers adding unnecessary overhead.

By structuring our contracts as time-and-materials, it means that our needs and your needs are always aligned. There’s no wrestling with what’s in scope or how much the next feature is going to cost. We will help you manage scope by providing technical feedback and estimating effort for feature requests so your planning is always informed.

In turn, this means that you are in charge of meeting milestones. Our developers work a standard forty hour workweek—no more, no less.
